Beautiful Buffet Makeover

When my friend Katie sent me an email asking if I was interested in buying her buffet, it was love at first sight!

isn’t it gorgeous?

It was in perfect condition and I couldn’t wait to get started.

Looking back at my recent projects, I realized almost everything I had painted this year was either cream or blue/mint.  So, I decided to switch it up and go bold!

I chose mustard yellow (maybe I was subconsciously inspired by my most recent letterpress project!)

I was a little concerned that the bright color might be too much for such a large piece so I decided to try something new and added a few hand painted white accents to help break up the color.

I just love the lines and curves of this piece!

It made it so easy to know where to paint the highlights…

This is a completely new technique for me but it was actually really fun to paint with a tiny little brush

I also decided to add patterned drawer liner to the the inside surfaces and just love the way the grey looks with the mustardy yellow paint

Bentwood Rocker

Nick has recently become my Craigslist scout.  He found this awesome rocker for a great deal and he even picked it up for me!

I had the fun job of painting it and giving is a new look!

As soon as I saw the piece, I automatically thought that it would be adorable in a nursery so I went with a light color scheme.  I used the same custom mixed blue color from this dresser for the main body of the rocker, and used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Old White for the caned areas.

Here is a progress shot after the first few coats of paint and before distressing.

And here is the rocker all finished with its brand new look!

I think its such a sweet little piece.  I pulled a few objects from Olivia’s nursery for the photos.

Ornate Dresser Rehab

So, as I promised in my last post, I’ve got a few recent furniture projects to share with you (finally)!

This beautiful, ornate dresser was one of my first big projects since Olivia was born and it was a fun piece to help me get back into the swing of things!

Now, as you can see this pretty lady was in bad shape cosmetically…but her bones (frame, and dovetail drawer construction) were all in great condition!  I don’t normally take on a project with so much pre-paint preparation, but when I saw the detail on this piece, it was love at first sight!

So, I brought her home and immediately began stripping the chipped veneer off of the worn out drawer fronts.  I made sure before purchasing that there was solid material under the veneer and not particle board which does NOT paint up well.  The wood was not the best quality but nothing a little sanding couldn’t fix.

I ultimately decided to strip the top surface as well but don’t have any pictures of that.

After many hours stripping with a heat gun, I was so ready to get painting!

I mixed 2 custom chalk paint colors.

Light blue for the body, and mint green for the accents.

And here is the finished product!

The orginal hardware was in great shape and the natural patina on the finish went great with the paint colors.  I love re-using hardware whenever possible.

You can see the wood on the top was a little “distressed” under the veneer but I really liked the way the imperfections added to the aged, rustic look so I continued with the original plan to stain in my favorite dark walnut shade.

Overall, I’m really happy with how this project turned out!

It would work great in a bedroom or as storage in a dining or living room.

Hope you enjoyed this transformation!
